Santa Claus is one of the most iconic and beloved figures in history. He represents presents and Christmastime, making every little boy and girl believe they need to be good all year to receive a present from the jolly man on Christmas Day. However, Terry Zwigoff and Billy Bob Thornton decided to create a film that showcases a darker, more obscene side of Santa Claus in the form of a mall representation of him. The film, titled "Bad Santa", is a hilarious and beloved holiday film that adults enjoy every Christmas season. That is why for the first day of Christmas season 2022, I have created this tasty Christmas cocktail that will put anybody in the mood. Keep reading to find out more information about the classic 2003 film, as well as the recipe for "Bad Santa's Milk & Cookies"!
"Bad Santa" is a 2003 film written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, with Terry Zwigoff taking the role as director. The film stars Billy Bob Thornton as Willie T. Soke, Tony Cox as Marcus, Brett Kelly as Thurman Merman, Lauren Graham as Sue, Lauren Tom as Lois, Bernie Max as Gin, and John Ritter as Bob Chipeska. The film follows Willie, who is a convicted con man that drinks heavily and constantly embarrasses himself in public. However, he has a plan.
He works as Santa at the mall once a year, and this year is no different. However, him and his pint-sized helper, named Marcus, stage elaborate robberies and take the department stores at the mall for everything they are worth. It goes smoothly at first, until Willie comes across large women, a bartender who has a Santa Claus fetish, and a kid who thinks he is the real deal. Now faced with these huge hurdles to overcome, the two con men have to figure out a way to make it rich and stay away from the mighty hand of the law this Christmas.
The film did very well in the box office for a Christmas film, grossing more than $76 million worldwide. It received mostly positive reviews from critics, calling it a gleefully offensive film that is a good time for the mature audiences. Some have even likened it to the demented and twisted twin to "Miracle on 34th Street". However, at the same time, people have chided the filmmakers and the Walt Disney Company for allowing such a negative and demented twist on the classic, iconic character. Even though it has faced its backlash and controversy, most people find this an extremely enjoyable watch every holiday season.
Due to how popular the first film was, a sequel was released in 2016, following Thornton's character once again. However, this time around, the film was panned by critics and audiences alike, as well as not making back it's budget at the box office. Deemed a box office failure and a bomb, it ultimately ruined any chance for there to be a third film in this series.
Every Christmas, cookies and milk are placed for Santa Claus, sort of as an exchange for the presents he brings children. So, this cocktail is perfect for the holiday season, crafting an alcoholic beverage for those trying to get through the holiday season, or even for Santa Claus himself! Not only will this drink will be an excellent inclusion at different holiday parties, but it will be the tastiest beverage you can enjoy when watching this raunchy Christmas comedy.
