"Fabienne's Blueberry Cocktail" (Inspired by "Pulp Fiction")

"Pulp Fiction" is perhaps one of the most influential films of all time for modern filmmakers. Not only did writer & director Quentin Tarantino deliver an amazing film for his second outing, but it pushed the boundaries of what was allowed on screen for indie filmmakers. This includes graphic language, glorified drug use, gruesome violence, and strong sexual content. In the third act of this film, the movie is focused on Bruce Willis' Butch, who is a boxer on the run from Marsellus Wallace after breaking a deal with him, forcing Wallace to put a bounty on his head. Now living in a hotel to avoid the mob boss and his associates, he is trying to find a way out of the town with his girlfriend, Fabienne, who he occasionally berates from time to time. Perhaps one of the best moments from this act is when Fabienne is telling Butch her order from a local diner, complete with blueberry pancakes. While she unfortunately didn't get her blueberry pancakes, you can get her desire with this liquid version of her blueberry pancake dream.

"Pulp Fiction" was released in 1994, and was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film starred John Travolta (in a career-revitalizing role), Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel, Ving Rhames, Maria de Medeiros, Eric Stoltz, and Amanda Plummer. The movie is practically split into three different parts - Jules and Vincent retrieving a briefcase for their boss, Marsellus Wallace, and all of the trouble they get into; Vincent takes Marsellus' wife Mia out on a date to keep her company while her husband is out of town on business, and a boxer who is on the run from Mr. Wallace after killing his opponent in the ring when he was supposed to be throwing the fight. All three of these parts are shown at different times in the film, and out of order, forcing the viewer to try and piece together where all of the parts fit into the whole.

When the film was released, it instantly took the world by storm. People were shocked, delighted, appalled, and confused by the graphic depictions of sex, rape, violence, strong language, and glorified use of drugs. It won the major awards at numerous film festivals, especially the Palme D'or at the Cannes Film Festival. The massive praise and excitement around this movie caused the Weinsteins to pick it up for their Miramax film studio, releasing it in American cinemas and all around the world.

It did incredible in the box office, becoming the first indie film to ever gross over $100 million in the U.S. box office alone. Many people were coming to see how crazy and over-the-top this film is, and it paid off for the studio, every actor involved, and Mr. Tarantino himself. Even better, almost all of the critics loved it, and many new critics still cite it as one of the best films ever made, not leaving the top 10 on IMDB since the film has released. Not only did this truly kickstart the career of one of the best filmmakers to ever live, but inspires a whole new generation of filmmakers that want to do what Tarantino was doing with the film business at that time.

The third and final drink in this series is Fabienne's Blueberry Cocktail! Like mentioned in the intro to this recipe, Fabienne is hellbent on getting her blueberry pancakes, while Butch journeys back to his house to collect his coveted watch that his father left him. However, they didn't have blueberry pancakes, forcing Fabienne to get plain ole' regular pancakes.

While she didn't get her blueberry pancakes that she wanted so badly, you definitely can here! This sweet, blueberry drink will charm any "Pulp Fiction" fan, allowing them to bask in the great taste of blueberries and Gin!

Ingredients:

- 6 Blueberries

- 1 oz Gin

- 1/2 oz Lime Juice

- 1/2 oz Sweet N Sour Mix

- Top with Club Soda

- 3 Blueberries (for garnish)

Directions:

1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the 6 blueberries down to a pulp. Then, add in the Gin, the Lime Juice, and the Sweet N Sour Mix.

2. Shake vigorously until well combined. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Then, top with club soda.

3. Add a garnish of 3 blueberries, and stack on top of the glass. Serve.

Film Fact: The 1964 Chevelle Malibu convertible that was driven by John Travolta's Vincent Vega belonged to writer and director Quentin Tarantino, and was stolen during the production of the film. In 2013, a police officer saw two kids stripping an older car. He arrested them, and while looking up the owner of the vehicle, he found the VIN had been altered. It turned out it was Tarantino's stolen car. The owner had purchased it and had no idea that it was stolen.

You have now made your very own cocktail inspired off the cult classic film, "Pulp Fiction"! This drink will be an excellent pairing for either your first-time watch or one of your many rewatches of arguably Tarantino's best film. The blueberry taste will easily add to the watch of this film, and really transport you to make you feel like Fabienne does! Check back tomorrow for the next drink in our new Tarantino series, which is inspired off his third film, "Jackie Brown"! Until then, happy drinking!
